Sussex Green Living, Horsham Repair Cafe and Transition Horsham are helping to transform the Kinder Living Home Show from a two day physical event to a three day virtual event this March by running online Zoom webinars and social media sharing.

The team organising the Kinder Spring are inviting businesses, charities and local organisations who normally showcase their products, services and activities at the live show – plus some new friends. There will be advice, tips, videos to watch, things to download and some very special Zoom events you can join in. You’ll need a ticket to join the Zoom sessions, but they’re all free of charge and can be booked via three Eventbrite pages, see below.

Here is a taster of what is on offer…..

Wildlife Eco Warriors webinar on Friday 5th March 3pm

We are presenting this session. It will be a fun virtual hands-on workshop looking at upcyling/reuse to help grow food and support wildlife in our garden and school grounds. We will look at everyday materials which many call rubbish, but we call a waste resource and creatively reuse and upcycle them to help give wildlife a home, grow flowers and foods in our home gardens and school grounds. Also sharing the latest research which highlights how crucial outdoor learning and eco activities are, in particular at this current time.
We study the materials, what they are made of, their value for recycling and reuse, decrying littering and inspiring the next generation of green champions.

This talk and the hands on activities we undertake will help you look in a new way at the world around you and then share this new vision with your pupils. It will help you and your pupils become more inquisitive and inventive and ask questions about the unsustainable way we are using the World’s resources and how we can change behaviour.

**If you would like to join in the hands on upcycling activity PLEASE BRING A 2 OR 4 PINT PLASTIC MILK BOTTLE, a pair of scissors (blunt ended if children are using them), permanent marker pens, hole punch and a piece of string. Book your ticket here.

Transition Horsham launch new Horsham District seed circle on Saturday 6th March 11am or 12 noon

Transition Horsham will be hosting their popular Seedy Saturday online at the Kinder Spring event. They will offer advice for those wanting to grow your own and avoid food waste.

At Seedy Saturday, experienced and novice growers usually swap locally saved seed – and experiences of growing vegetables, fruit and flowers. Sadly swapping seeds at this online meeting will not be possible but everyone will be able to share experiences.

And in 2021, with the Seed Circle, the opportunities to swap experiences and ‘grow together’ will continue throughout the year.

Transition Horsham will explain at the meeting – but, basically, our Seed Circle is a group of people who each grow one crop, harvest it and save seed for our 2022 seed swap. They will support members at key stages of the growing calendar – mainly online but with some opportunities to meet up in person.

They hope you will want to join the Seed Circle. You will be able to sign up after the meeting.

Here’s the link to sign up – for either the 11am or the 12noon meeting.

They have a small supply of local and heritage seed, some donated by Garden Organic, for people within Horsham District (UK) who would like to join the Seed Circle.  At the meeting you can see what seed is available and get some hints and tips on growing it. You can then request some, if you wish, when you sign up.

Transition Horsham are also working hard to help people make their homes more energy efficient, up-cycle furniture plus eco-friendly crafting and much more!

Horsham Climate Cafe webinar on Saturday 6th March 2pm

The Kinder Spring event are promoting our Horsham Climate Cafe which takes place on the first Saturday of every month, so is on the Saturday of their weekend. This months Climate Cafe are delighted to welcome two officers Chloe and Amy from Worthing & Adur Council who will be sharing lessons learnt from their Climate Assembly.  The Worthing & Adur Councils Climate Assembly which took place Sept – December 2020. The assembly culminated from Worthing & Adur Councils declaration of a climate emergency in July 2019, followed in March 2020 by their Zero 2030 conference organised with community groups and attended by about 300 local residents and representatives from local businesses, community and civic groups. This ground-breaking approach and event resulted in a GOLD Award at the CPRE Sussex Countryside Awards in 2020. Worthing & Adur Councils aim to achieve zero carbon energy use within the council estate by 2030 and within Adur and Worthing by 2050.

Amy & Chloe will share their personal experiences of the Climate Assembly, the selection process, timescales, which speakers most impacted them and why, what the councils learnt and the final recommendations. You can book here.
