Partnering for a Greener Future: At SGL we’re thrilled to be partnering with Greenwood, which is a great example of how a company can become ‘greener’.
At Greenwood, we believe that Every Plant Matters. We are an award-winning sustainable plant nursery and commercial landscape supplier, who aim to deliver an effortless client experience. We believe in growing responsibly, taking great care to ensure each and every plant realises its full potential, whilst minimising our impact on the environment. We achieve this in a number of ways, from being a 100% peat-free grower, to being 90% water self-sufficient, using electric utility vehicles on our nursery sites, and more. Having been named ‘Sustainable Business of the Year’ at the South Central Business Awards in 2022’, and ‘Peat Free Grower of the Year’ at the 2023 Horticultural Trades Association Awards, Greenwood was recognised in January 2024 by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) at their International Grower of the Year awards, winning in three categories, including sustainability, and as the overall winners of the coveted ‘Golden Rose’ award.
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we engage in several key initiatives, such as our ‘G Cycle’ recycling scheme. We offer to collect the wooden crates, pallets, and plastic pots from our clients, which are used to deliver their orders, and re-use or recycle them, free of charge, reimbursing our clients 100% of the packaging costs. With over 90% of all crates and pallets being recycled through the scheme, it’s helped Greenwood to massively reduce the amount of resources required to run its day-to-day operations. In addition to this, as a bid to help boost local biodiversity, in 2023 we began beekeeping, with volunteers from the G Team undertaking apiary training and maintaining the hives. Not only has this produced delicious honey for the team to enjoy, but has also had a great benefit to the surrounding ecosystem. To help further enhance local green spaces, Greenwood also frequently collaborates with local organisations, through its Greenwood Community plant donation scheme. With donations to local hospices, schools, charities and environmental groups, Greenwood aims to help boost biodiversity in local ecosystems, and create a social benefit for residents to enjoy.
Greenwood is delighted, as part of this scheme, to be partnering with Sussex Green Living, to support their efforts in the construction of pollination education stations (PES) around the local area. Our goals are aligned very closely with Sussex Green Living, and providing support to vital pollinators through initiatives such as the PES project is incredibly important to us. We’re very much looking forward to collaborating with SGL and supporting their ongoing projects. In a world where our biodiversity is on the decline, and our bees are under threat of extinction, projects like these are incredibly important to preserving our ecosystems, and as we like to say, Every Plant Matters!
