Getting Sussex Buzzing again!
Sussex is really buzzing in 2024 thanks to exciting new collaborations between Sussex Green Living and local businesses: a new way of combining practical solutions to current and future environmental issues with community outreach, fundraising and business wellbeing. The Pollination Education Stations and Green Business Network have been developed in collaboration with Billingshurst based agency PMW Communications as part of their generous gift of pro bono work with 30 local charities to celebrate their 30 years in business.
One week after Sussex Green Living launched these new endeavours at the Sussex Green Hub, the first Pollination Education Station (PES) has been installed. Horsham based business, Envitia Ltd, a digital and data services company based in Horsham, will focus on one charity each quarter and on Monday 4th March, as part of their fundraising and collaboration with Sussex Green Living, they set up their Pollination Education Station, a haven for pollinators, with a community herb bed and an information board.
It is situated on the roadside by the entrance to the North Heath Lane Estate where Envitia’s Horsham offices are located. Staff had foraged for the materials such as pine cones, twigs, tree bark, bamboo tubes, mosses and lichens as well as tiles and bricks to provide shelter for any number of different species of mini beasts. Essential creatures such as bees, spiders, beetles and worms can find a home here, and staff brought in plants from their gardens to
provide nectar for the pollinators.
Rowena Cowan, Envitia’s People and Culture Director said, “We’re thrilled to be one of the first companies to install a Sussex Green Living Pollination Station! It demonstrates our commitment to support our environment, our staff and our pollinators which so badly need our help. Interested staff are volunteering to maintain the station.”
In alignment with Horsham District Council’s Wilder Horsham District five-year plan, Horsham Trafalgar Neighbourhood Council has also sponsored a Pollination Station. There are many flats and homes with no gardens in this densely populated area, however, it’s a vital link for the Horsham Wildways mapped corridors from Warnham across the town to St Leonard’s Forest, so any little extra help offered to insects here is important. Horsham Green Spaces have produced maps to describe the targeted routes across the town. It’s one of the first such projects in the UK, of instigating wildlife corridors through towns, rather than around them. We’re very proud to be part of it!
Sussex Green Living are now looking for sponsors in each town and village across Horsham District, particularly those which already have a repair café, to sponsor a Pollination Education Station. The educational plaque QR code leads viewers back to the ‘Solutions’ page on our website. We’d love to engage with businesses which would like to sponsor a Pollination Education Station for their work location or for their local school or other site.
NOTE: Envitia PES is a MAXI which is H 180cm D 130cm and W 80cm. View the smaller MIDI PES here.
