A Tietastic Guinness World Records

February 27, 2017/in Eco News, Events, Green art & games, Sustainable Fashion/by The Webmaster

Carrie Cort is ‘Officially Amazing’, so say the Guinness World Record (GWR) office.  Last year as part of a ‘Green Play and Display Day’ which Carrie organised in the Human Nature Garden, Horsham Park, she attempted to beat the GWR challenge for the person wearing the most neckties, which was 260 ties, 400 had been donated. Carrie managed to beat the record by 10, a small margin but her neck would take no more! Her GWR officials were (left to right) Jeremy Quin MP, Amanda Jupp – WSCC County Councillor, Paul Bellringer – founder of Horsham Festival and Sarah Bamsey, who placed the ties.  Read more

May 28, 2016/in Eco News, Events, Green art & games, Recycling, Sustainable Fashion/by Carrie Cort

Neckties are a bit of an environmental nightmare, novelty ties get bought for people who might use them once or twice, charity shops don’t want them as they don’t sell well and if sent for recycling they often get caught up in the recycling machinery and cause expensive damage.  Upcycling, remaking and reuse is best!

Climate change and its effect on the poor

April 1, 2016/in Children & nature, Climate change, Eco News/by Carrie Cort

Following a recent visit to Manila, Philippines, for Al Gore’s Climate Reality Leadership Corp training programme and to the poorest community in Manila, this is what I believe: We need to ‘think global and act global,’ because wherever we are in the world, our actions –  good or bad – have a knock on effect which ripples around the globe. When did we become green?

January 16, 2016/in Eco News/by Carrie Cort

When did we become green? Well we used to be green, then we lost sight of our great planet and swept away by consumerism. We used to grow lots of our own food, buy little, local and loose. Why are we now paying supermarkets for plastic packaging? Hopefully people are taking their own shopping bags now, rather than accepting or buying plastic bags from the supermarkets/shop keepers. Here is a short story to make you chuckle, written by an unknown author … Read more

True cost of Christmas

December 20, 2015/in Eco News, Recycling, Seasonal celebrations/by Carrie Cort

Beautiful second hand paper.

All our presents are wrapped with last years wrapping paper, stunning.

Christmas is a really exciting and fun time of year, however it is a horrendously wasteful time.
