Quakers support for recycling – article
Horsham Quakers and the William Penn Primary School unite
Sussex Green Living with the help of Horsham Quakers and local residents launched a third recycling collection point in Horsham, last Saturday (7th Dec) at their monthly Green Coffee Morning and Mini Market. This scheme will enable the people of Horsham to divert specific landfill waste resources into a recycling scheme financially benefiting the William Penn Primary School in Coolham. This is fantastic green community collaboration between the Horsham Quakers and the William Penn School which is a unique primary school with a Quaker foundation. Read more

I read that “Water UK has found that potential risks to water from fracking can be avoided with the right rules and regulations in place”. So Water UK can prevent cement from ever cracking? If so well they need to communicate with the companies in the USA and Australia that are having terrible problems. Read more

SeedPod, a local start-up that helps people to grow their own vegetables, has just this week (06.12.13) launched special Christmas gift subscription option on their website.
Having launched earlier this Autumn, SeedPod is already enabling hesitant novice gardeners to grow their own food without prior knowledge, while also making homegrowing simpler and more convenient for those with experienced green fingers. Read more

Hot news…. William Penn Primary School comes 13th in a UK wide biscuit wrapper recycling competition!
Sussex Green Living have been working with the William Penn Primary School in Coolham to launch and establish their TerraCycle recycling schemes, more information can be seen here. One of the waste resources they can recycle is sweet biscuit wrappers. The recycling scheme is sponsored by Mc Vitie’s, here are the competition results from TerraCycle……
Sussex Green Living is competing in the UK wide Biscuit Wrapper Recycling competition, the beneficiary being the William Penn Primary School in Coolham. This competition is to see who can save the most used sweet biscuit wrappers (and brand) from landfill. At the time of writing this blog we were 18th in the UK. With a final push over the next 3 weeks we could be in with a chance of winning anything between £250 – £20 for the school, plus save all those biscuit wrappers from landfill.

You may or may not be aware but Cuadrilla Resources Ltd have an application for a mining waste permit to manage wastes arising from an exploratory borehole to test for oil reserves at Balcombe in West Sussex, (also in Broadford Bridge near West Chiltington and Wisborough Green). The question is how can a company dispose of this much radioactive and chemical waste safely? Read more
