Waste Week is a fantastic opportunity to get the whole school learning about waste and thinking about how they can cut down on the amount of waste they produce, as well as how they can reduce the proportion that goes to landfill, by re-using, recycling and composting. Read more
Presently, businesses all over the world are focused on the development of sustainable and eco-friendly supply chains that can be built not only to support themselves, but can also actively improve the environment. Scientists are working to make sure green energy supply chains are environmentally friendly, while also being able to eliminate waste within the supply chain. Winning “Going Green” Business Matters Awards – article
Take One Productions Corporate Social Responsibility initiative Sussex Green Living was nominated for the Going Green Award at the Business Matters Awards which took place on 20th July 2012 at the Copthorne Effingham Hotel. The Take One team enjoyed a lively evening hosted by TV personality Fred Dinenage and attended by other nominees from Horsham, Crawley, Haywards Heath and Lewes.
The team members were over the moon when they were announced winners of the Going Green award. Here Pedro the Sussex Green Living mascot receives the Going Green Award for all his work helping to Green up Sussex!
Winners from the regional Sussex and Hampshire business awards went through to the 3rd Southern Business Awards, which took place on Friday 28th September at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Brighton.
Take One’s Sussex Green Living were among the region’s top businesses at this glamorous awards ceremony, organised by JP South Events with the support of the overall sponsor JSPC Computer Services.
Carrie Cort, Take One’s marketing director said “We were delighted to have been awarded Highly Commended for Sussex Green Living. This Award and the resulting PR will help to raise the general public’s awareness of the need to live greener and more sustainably”.

Pedro launches his Sussex Greener Living Campaign.
Pedro has been very busy setting up lots of new recycling schemes to divert waste materials from the landfill in Warnham. These great schemes will benefit the William Penn Primary School in Coolham, WAKOOS nursery in Billingshurst, Sussex Wildlife Trust and the The Philippine Community Fund. Billingshurst Primary School have also set up some of their own recycling schemes. Read more

An abandoned viaduct is to be transformed into a Wind Turbine
A bridge that repurposes abandoned viaducts, produces energy AND looks futuristically sleek? Yes, it can be true, and it is Italy’s proposed Wind Turbine Viaduct called “Solar Wind.” Southern Italy is dotted with unused viaducts, and rather than spending $50 million to tear them down, town officials near Calabria held a competition called “Solar Park South,” open to designers and engineers asking them to come up with an environmentally conscious way to re-use the existing structures. You might need something, in which case sign up, search for the item or post a wanted ad for free.
The central West Sussex Freegle Group is Steyning Freegle Group and there is a central West Sussex Freecycle Group in Horsham.
All items must be legal and appropriate, and free. No loans, swaps or sales please – just free gifts.
Sign up Sussex and get recycling rather than filling up the landfill!

Right Royal Recycling (Green Jubilee Party) – Article
In May, Carrie from Sussex Green Living and Blanca Timblick, the Business Enterprise Co-ordinator at Bishop Luffa School, launched Green Johanna’s at the school. Blanca and Carrie trained with Better Tomorrows CIC earlier in the year to become voluntary Waste Prevention Advisors. Better Tomorrows’ aim is to change how the residents of West Sussex think and behave in order to be more environmentally-friendly and more sustainable.
