Creating Community Sustainability Hubs
Online Knowledge Sharing Session
Tuesday 12 November, 7pm (MS Teams)
The South East Climate Alliance (SECA) is hosting an online Knowledge Sharing Session exploring how local communities can develop practical and permanent spaces for sustainability. The session will feature Parisa Wright, founder of Greener & Cleaner.
Since 2022, Greener & Cleaner has been piloting a unique Community Hub model in Bromley that transforms a vacant shopping centre unit into a thriving and inclusive community space.
At a time when many people are feeling the effects of the cost of living crisis, rising isolation, the loss of community services and the impacts of climate change, this model offers a positive and scalable approach. With more than 1,000 visitors each month, the Bromley Hub has become a place where skills, knowledge, creativity and practical support are shared to meet social, environmental and wellbeing needs.
- The Hub brings together activities including
- reducing waste and saving money
- wellbeing support and social connection
- hands-on climate action
- volunteering and skills development
This is a multi-impact approach that can be adapted for towns, cities and villages across the UK.
Parisa will introduce the Community Hub model, share what has been learned so far and offer practical insights for anyone interested in developing a sustainability space in their own area. There may also be opportunities for follow-up guidance and advice.
Why attend
- Hear an inspiring success story in challenging times
- Find out what makes this model work
- Gain practical ideas and useful tools for your own community
- Connect with others working to support climate action at the local level
