Volunteer with Us

The climate emergency involves us all, but the good news is that we all have skills and information that we can share to improve our lifestyles and inspire others. Volunteer with us and join the Sussex Green Living community.

So whether you want to participate in our many events, especially the Bright New Future roadshow, recycle at one of our TerraCycle (single-use plastic) drop-off locations, or set up a new one,  join one of our groups such as the Sussex Green Ideas group or Youth Eco-Forum, we’d love to hear from you.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Horsham Repair Cafe Reception Manager and Digital Booking Co-ordinator Needed

At Sussex Green Living we work as a charity to help our local community to live more sustainably. Amongst a myriad of things, we run a monthly Repair Cafe in Horsham. It takes place on the last Saturday of every month as part of the Sussex Green Hub in the United Reformed Church hall, behind Wilko near the bus station. It was the 1st repair café in West Sussex launched in 2017 and now one of 7 in Horsham District.

Sadly, our current co-ordinator Karen is leaving after two fantastic years, recently she wrote a guide to setting up a repair café which is available to read. The repair cafe is well established with digital booking systems and we feel it is time to recruit two people to take over from Karen.

Horsham Repair Cafe Reception Manager

We are looking for an organised and committed volunteer to manage the Repair Cafe one Saturday a month from 10-2.30pm plus help set up on the Friday evening. The role will suit someone who enjoys meeting people, with excellent customer service skills, who likes managing a busy booking system on the day and is an organised administrator. This rewarding role is a very practical way of seeing how we can all make a difference in our local community. You get to see items coming in for repair, and very happy customers going away with small household items, clothes and bikes, usually fixed! You will be helping to prevent items from being dumped and help people develop a ‘repair not replace’ mentality. Saving money and helping the planet!

Horsham Repair Cafe Digital Booking Co-ordinator

We are looking for an organised committed volunteer to manage the booking system and enquiries for the monthly Repair Cafe. The role is for someone with good IT skills, particularly in Excel and Mailmerge, preferably with a knowledge of Calendly, our booking system.  You will deal with general enquiries around items for repair, keep the repair team informed of the bookings coming up for the month and print paperwork ready for the Repair Cafe each month.  We are looking for someone who can take on this regular commitment on a long term basis.  Is this you?

For a copy of our guide to setting up a repair cafe, or for more information about either of the above positions, please email: .

We hope you will come and join our team!

Kirdford and Amberley – Recycling Volunteers Required for Drop-Off Locations

We are looking for people to join our village teams of volunteers to sort through recycling.  You would help to empty, sort and box up single use plastics collected in Amberley and Kirdford.

The frequency is to be agreed with the existing volunteers, but the day can be flexible.

This is part of our recycling scheme, run across 22 locations in the Horsham District and surrounding area.  Learn more here: All these materials are recycled through our Sussex Green Living TerraCycle account.  Training will be given.  Plastic gloves are needed.

What skills do I need? No skills needed, just a willingness to help us and the environment
