We are excited to announce thanks to a National Lottery Community Fund grant we have launched a new activity at the Sussex Green Hub led by ‘Em Makes’ read on….

As the weather turns colder, with the first signs of snow, December is fast approaching.  Shops are filled with bright baubles and tinsel and everywhere we go, there are signs that Christmas is coming.  At each shop we are encouraged to buy this, buy that, spend more!!!

But if you, like me, would prefer to give something more special, more personal, and know that your gift has been made with something pre-loved, with a story, and possibly by your own hands at our monthly Art Hub at the Sussex Green Hub.

Here we provide a creative space where you can connect, create and make a difference by giving new life to something old.  Each last Saturday of the month (with the exception of December) we offer a wide range of resources and inspiration, and you are welcome to come and join us.  All ages are welcome at this free drop-in-event – creativity and self expression know no age limit!  You can join us for one of our workshops, bring ideas to share, or enjoy a cuppa and a cake, sit back and carry on with your own creative work.

This coming Saturday 29th November, from 10:00am to 2:30pm at the Sussex Green Hub, United Reformed Church, Springfield Road, RH12 2RG (near the old Wilko shop off West Street and the Lynd Cross pub) myself and volunteers will be making beautiful lanterns from jam jars, ramekins, wire and beads – things that you may have lying around your own home. Perhaps you have a piece of jewellery that sadly cannot be fixed, why not turn this into a handle for a beautiful lantern which you could decorate yourself, with buttons, beads and artwork – transform what was once broken, into something special. Come and join us, bring your jars, jewellery, special treasures that may have been forgotten, and let us help you bring in the Christmas light – literally!

Everything can find a new life – we just need to help create it.

In my house we have a sock thief – perhaps you have one too??? So many single socks that have lost their partner, our single soles I call them 🙂  If you have some single soles, bring them along, with a little bit of love, attention, ribbon and some stuffing, we can turn them into a sock snowman!  Lo and behold, a cute decoration, gift or paperweight, all it needs is about 10 minutes of your time, and a bit of inspiration. Instead of a slow trip to recycling, your sock has been given  new life!

Cute knitted scarves, made from spare balls of wool, quirky cuddly bears and animals made from fluffy socks, felt and buttons, all sorts of treasure for you to find and gift to others.

Find out how to make one of our special ‘little people’ from beads, pipe-cleaners, thread and fabric scraps.  Or you can buy one of these beautifully unique ‘little people’, made by Jean with love. Brooches, magnets, tree decorations, bespoke commission pieces, each of these has such character and deserves to find a new home. All funds raised are gifted to Sussex Green Living, to help to fund environmental education in state schools. Together we can reduce, reuse, remake and create.

We really hope that you can find some time to join us for some festive fun, conversation and re-making. Basic supplies are provided, but if you would like to donate and not create, we would love to see you too.
