We have a suggestion to help to encourage our Government to increase their amibition on addressing the Climate and Ecological Emergency, send a Christmas card to your MP! Wishing them a Happy Christmas but also asking them to support the CEE Bill……..
What is the CEE Bill ?
The CEE Bill calls for UK to make a serious plan to;
1. Take account of our entire Carbon footprint (here & overseas)
2. Protect nature here and along overseas supply chains
3. Not depend on unproven technology (ie speculative carbon capture technologies) to limit the damage
4. Allow ordinary people to have a real say via Citizens Assemblies (Worthing & Adur Council have recently started a Citizens Assembly relating to the Climate Emergency)
Caroline Lucas introduced the CEE Bill to parliament as a Private Members Bill in September. So far 76 MPs support the bill. The bill has the opportunity of a 2nd reading in Parliament on 12th March. There is more information available at www.ceebill.uk.
What are we proposing for Horsham?
Now – with Christmas fast approaching – we’d ask you to send Jeremy Quin (MP for Horsham) a Christmas card. If you do not live in his constituency please send a card to your MP!
We’d suggest it’s just a typical Christmas card, but with the addition of “PLEASE SUPPORT THE CEE BILL” added to the inside left of the card.
Also add a personal goodwill message – it’s that season, and we want him to engage with the card, not be annoyed by it.
The Plan
Faith, community and environmental groups share out this idea with their following in the run up to Christmas.
February Friday Vigils
Vigils outside Jeremy Quin’s constituency office on a Friday(s) at end of February (or you could do the same outside your MPs office if you live elsewhere). In Horsham one Friday will be hosted by Transition Horsham, one by Extinction Rebellion Horsham (https://www.facebook.com/xrhorsham or https://twitter.com/XRHorsham) and might your group like to take a 3rd Friday? Contact Mark Francis if you would like to learn more .
Choose your own Christmas card – no glitter, a charity card, preferably upcycled from last year or printed on recycled card.
Or you might like to colour in this card! Please encourage schools, scout, girl guide and youth groups to use this card or design their own.
