Children from all over West Sussex competed in our Eco Beast Sculpture competition in July, culminating in a public display at the family event ‘Funday Sunday’ in Horsham Park.
The four winning schools – Warninglid, Georgian Gardens, William Penn School and Upper Beeding – enjoyed their prizes on 8th, 11th, 12th and 13th September. Read more
Eco Beast Competition
Eco Beast Sculptures migrated from across West Sussex and took over a marquee in Horsham Park at ‘Funday Sunday’ on Sunday 9th July. Children from all over the county had wonderful fun making Eco Beast Sculptures out of waste resources. The best sculptures from schools and children’s uniformed groups formed a stunning public exhibition at this family event. Read more
The Future We Want – LESS C02 campaign was launched by Sussex Green Living in June 2017 at the Billingshurst Carnival. This programme was developed as a result of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Leadership Corp training (more information below) and a WWF competition. In March 2017 Carrie, the founder of Sussex Green Living, was shortlisted as the WWF Earth Hour Community Hero. At the same WWF Earth Hour Parliamentary reception, Adam her 9 year old son was announced as a winner in the WWF KS2 The Future We Want – Climate Challenge poster competition, with his Climate Cartoon.
Carrie and Adam decided that they need to give future generations the knowledge and a voice to encourage everyone to care better for the planet which sustains us. Read more

A mother and son from Sussex were both acknowledged for their inspirational environmental work at the WWF Earth Hour Parliamentary Reception at the Palace of Westminster on 28th February.
Carrie Cort was shortlisted for the WWF Community Hero Award for climate justice work within her community, whilst her nine-year old son Adam won the KS2 WWF Climate Challenge ‘The Future We Want’ poster competition. Read more
Carrie Cort is ‘Officially Amazing’, so say the Guinness World Record (GWR) office. Last year as part of a ‘Green Play and Display Day’ which Carrie organised in the Human Nature Garden, Horsham Park, she attempted to beat the GWR challenge for the person wearing the most neckties, which was 260 ties, 400 had been donated. Carrie managed to beat the record by 10, a small margin but her neck would take no more! Her GWR officials were (left to right) Jeremy Quin MP, Amanda Jupp – WSCC County Councillor, Paul Bellringer – founder of Horsham Festival and Sarah Bamsey, who placed the ties. Read more

Energy Matters workshop
The E.Y.E. (Eco Young and Engaged) Project ran its first Eco Summit at the Weald and Downland Museum just outside Chichester yesterday. Previously they have run nine Eco Summits in the Worthing and Adur area. We were asked to deliver three Energy Matters workshops at the Summit for Your Energy Sussex. Read more

Our new Green careers stand is going to the ‘Big Bang South East’ event at the South of England Showground, Ardingly on 28th June. The event aims to encourage young people aged 9 – 19 years to take up science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), and brings those subjects to life. The Big Bang normally attracts about 7,500 young people and their teachers. You can learn more about the Big Bang events here.

Neckties are a bit of an environmental nightmare, novelty ties get bought for people who might use them once or twice, charity shops don’t want them as they don’t sell well and if sent for recycling they often get caught up in the recycling machinery and cause expensive damage. The Floral Fringe Fair 2016 is taking place on the weekend of June 4th/5th at Knepp Castle, Shipley, Nr Horsham, West Sx RH13 8LJ from 10.30 am to 5pm both days. The fair is quirky and eclectic. It has a wildlife theme but also a vintage twist. The fair specializes in quality stalls from Sussex, Surrey, Kent and Hampshire and stallholders who have actually made what they sell and so are able to talk with first hand knowledge about their product. Al Gore’s powerful Climate Reality presentation is available in West Sussex…… This March Carrie was invited to be trained by Al Gore former US Vice President, leading climate change scientists and climate change communicators in Manila, Philippines on a three day training programme. There were 700 other passionate environmental communicators from 33 different countries on this programme and there are over 10,000 Climate Reality Leaders now trained worldwide. Over the coming months Carrie Cort, winner of the BBC Surrey and Sussex Community Hero, Green Champion Award will share Al Gore’s Climate Reality presentation with the people of West Sussex. This year the main focus will be the plight of elephants under the title “The Future of Elephants is in our Hands”.
