Mother and son acknowledged at Climate Awards

A mother and son from Sussex were both acknowledged for their inspirational environmental work at the WWF Earth Hour Parliamentary Reception at the Palace of Westminster on 28th February.

Carrie Cort was shortlisted for the WWF Community Hero Award for climate justice work within her community, whilst her nine-year old son Adam won the KS2 WWF Climate Challenge ‘The Future We Want’ poster competition. Read more

A Tietastic Guinness World Records


Carrie Cort is ‘Officially Amazing’, so say the Guinness World Record (GWR) office.  Last year as part of a ‘Green Play and Display Day’ which Carrie organised in the Human Nature Garden, Horsham Park, she attempted to beat the GWR challenge for the person wearing the most neckties, which was 260 ties, 400 had been donated. Carrie managed to beat the record by 10, a small margin but her neck would take no more! Her GWR officials were (left to right) Jeremy Quin MP, Amanda Jupp – WSCC County Councillor, Paul Bellringer – founder of Horsham Festival and Sarah Bamsey, who placed the ties.  Read more

Inconvenient Truth changes lives

Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth coming to Horsham. On Tuesday 25th October 8pm Transition Horsham are showing the film at their monthly meeting at the Friends Meeting House, Worthing Road, RH12 1SL (opposite Sainsburys). Come and let this film change your life!

Green careers stand launched

Our new Green careers stand is going to the ‘Big Bang South East’ event at the South of England Showground, Ardingly on 28th June. The event aims to encourage young people aged 9 – 19 years to take up science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), and brings those subjects to life. The Big Bang normally attracts about 7,500 young people and their teachers. You can learn more about the Big Bang events here.

Quirky Quintessential English event – Floral Fringe Fair 2016

The Floral Fringe Fair 2016 is taking place on the weekend of June 4th/5th at Knepp Castle, Shipley, Nr Horsham, West Sx RH13 8LJ  from 10.30 am to 5pm both days.  The fair is quirky and eclectic. It has a wildlife theme but also a vintage twist. The fair specializes in quality stalls from Sussex, Surrey, Kent and Hampshire and stallholders who have actually made what they sell and so are able to talk with first hand knowledge about their product. Al Gore Climate Reality Talks in West Sussex

Al Gore’s powerful Climate Reality presentation is available in West Sussex…… This March Carrie was invited to be trained by Al Gore former US Vice President, leading climate change scientists and climate change communicators in Manila, Philippines on a three day training programme. There were 700 other passionate environmental communicators from 33 different countries on this programme and there are over 10,000 Climate Reality Leaders now trained worldwide. Over the coming months Carrie Cort, winner of the BBC Surrey and Sussex Community Hero, Green Champion Award will share Al Gore’s Climate Reality presentation with the people of West Sussex.   Read more

Horsham Fairtrade Christmas Market

Come and join us this Saturday 28th November 10am – 4pm at the Horsham Fairtrade Christmas Market, St. John’s RC Church Hall in the centre of Horsham.  It is at the end of West Street (behind the Olive Branch pub) just off of Springfield Road.

Sussex Green Living’s Green Stand will be selling goods made by and sold on behalf of the Philippine Community Fund. There will be stalls of unusual Fairtrade products from all over the world including jewellery, toys, clothing, wood carvings, stationary and much more: ideal Christmas presents for all which support third world producers and their communities. An all-day cafe will serve teas, coffees and home-made cakes.

Global Climate March Coming to Horsham

In a bid to raise awareness of climate and environmental issues facing the local area, local residents will be holding a peaceful, family-friendly rally through Horsham on 29th November 2015 as part of the global ‘Time To Act’ Climate March taking place on that day, in advance of the COP21 Climate Summit in Paris from 30th November to 11th December 2015. This summit aims to reach a legally binding and universally agreed commitment to tackling climate change and reducing harmful emissions and marches will take place across the world in what is billed as the world’s largest climate protest. Finalist for Green Champion at BBC Sussex & Surrey Community Heroes Awards

We are really excited to announce that the founder of Sussex Green Living, Carrie Cort has been nominated by a number of people for the BBC Sussex and BBC Surrey Community Heroes Awards! She is a finalist for the Green Champion Award and is off to the awards ceremony on Monday 30th November 2015 with her husband, 8 year old son (himself a green warrior) and nominators.
