Sussex Green Living offer a wide range of educational sessions from school assemblies and classroom sessions to full day roadshow events. We have a carousel of environmental topics that we can cover and we tailor them for any age group from Early Years to Sixth Form.
Our environmental education programme promotes Education for Sustainable Development, STEAM and Sustainable Development Goals – Goal 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, Goal 12 Responsible Consumption and Production, Goal 13 Climate Action, Goal 14 Life Below Water and Goal 15 Life on Land. Curriculum links – global citizenship, geography, English, science and life skills.
Eco Beast Competition
Eco Beast Sculptures migrated from across West Sussex and took over a marquee in Horsham Park at ‘Funday Sunday’ on Sunday 9th July. Children from all over the county had wonderful fun making Eco Beast Sculptures out of waste resources. The best sculptures from schools and children’s uniformed groups formed a stunning public exhibition at this family event. Read more
The Future We Want – LESS C02 campaign was launched by Sussex Green Living in June 2017 at the Billingshurst Carnival. This programme was developed as a result of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Leadership Corp training (more information below) and a WWF competition. In March 2017 Carrie, the founder of Sussex Green Living, was shortlisted as the WWF Earth Hour Community Hero. At the same WWF Earth Hour Parliamentary reception, Adam her 9 year old son was announced as a winner in the WWF KS2 The Future We Want – Climate Challenge poster competition, with his Climate Cartoon.
Carrie and Adam decided that they need to give future generations the knowledge and a voice to encourage everyone to care better for the planet which sustains us. Read more

Energy Matters workshop
The E.Y.E. (Eco Young and Engaged) Project ran its first Eco Summit at the Weald and Downland Museum just outside Chichester yesterday. Previously they have run nine Eco Summits in the Worthing and Adur area. We were asked to deliver three Energy Matters workshops at the Summit for Your Energy Sussex. Read more

Yesterday my school, the William Penn Primary School in Coolham had a really exciting day sharing our ideas about how we could Change the World. This ‘World Changing IDEA Day’ was sponsored by the Billingshurst and District Lions Club and presented by 7 Billion Ideas Education.
Our new Green careers stand is going to the ‘Big Bang South East’ event at the South of England Showground, Ardingly on 28th June. The event aims to encourage young people aged 9 – 19 years to take up science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), and brings those subjects to life. The Big Bang normally attracts about 7,500 young people and their teachers. You can learn more about the Big Bang events here.

Recycling is one of the most important actions you can take to help the environment and to preserve it, so that we can continue to live on a green and healthy planet instead of breathing in pollution and damaging the nature. The staff and children at Rudgwick Primary School are very excited by the recent opening of their new outdoor classroom, which was built using money raised by the school PTA. With the first signs of spring peeping through the decomposing autumn leaves the school are busy planning to make full use of this wonderful space.
After the festive season many people throw away their Christmas wrapping paper, Christmas cards and cracker content, not here! These waste resources make stunning art materials for our Green Club. Last week saw the start of our Pedro’s After School Green Club at the William Penn Primary School in Coolham, West Sussex. 15 children ranging from 6 to 11 came together to learn ways they can “upcycle” these materials into new Christmas resources. We made new crackers out of cardboard tubes, Christmas wrapping paper and unwanted cracker jokes and gifts. Out of the Christmas cards we made present tags and Christmas cards for next year and thank you cards for this year.

I have just read a really interesting article stressing the importance of play for children, where the author Dr Peter Gray compares human children to Carnivores and herbivores! He says “There is a desperate need to give childhood back to children if we want our offspring to have happy productive and moral lives. We must allow more time for play not less, are you listening Michael Gove Secretary of State for Education”.

Sussex Green Living have been working with the William Penn Primary School in Coolham to launch and establish their TerraCycle recycling schemes, more information can be seen here. One of the waste resources they can recycle is sweet biscuit wrappers. The recycling scheme is sponsored by Mc Vitie’s, here are the competition results from TerraCycle……

In May, Carrie from Sussex Green Living and Blanca Timblick, the Business Enterprise Co-ordinator at Bishop Luffa School, launched Green Johanna’s at the school. Blanca and Carrie trained with Better Tomorrows CIC earlier in the year to become voluntary Waste Prevention Advisors. Better Tomorrows’ aim is to change how the residents of West Sussex think and behave in order to be more environmentally-friendly and more sustainable.
