Donations set to double in national campaign

April 16, 2026/in Biodiversity & Nature, Children & nature, Climate change, Climate Hub, Eco News, Events, Fundraising, Recycling, Refill, Repair Cafe, Sussex Green Hub, Take Action/by Marianne Lindfield

Following a competitive application process, Sussex Green Living has been selected to take part in the Big Give Earth Raise—a national match-funding campaign launching on Earth Day 22 April.

From noon Wednesday 22 April to noon Wednesday 29 April every donation made through the campaign will be matched, meaning a £50 donation becomes £100 to support the charity’s work across Sussex.

Run by Big Give, the campaign brings together philanthropists, foundations, and businesses to match public donations. Over the years, Big Give has raised approximately £427 million for thousands of charities.

At a critical moment for the environment, Earth Raise provides a timely opportunity for individuals to support practical, community-led solutions that protect ecosystems and tackle climate challenges. The campaign is time-limited, creating urgency for supporters to act.

During the campaign, Sussex Green Living will have just one week to raise £4,000, which will be doubled to £8,000. The funds will help residents to reduce waste, cut carbon emissions and adopt more sustainable lifestyles.

At the charity’s community hub, around 150 local people each month repair and reuse household items, access affordable refills, recycle hard-to-process materials, and receive advice on saving energy and reducing waste. For many, it is the only accessible local space offering all of these services in one place.

Each year, more than 1,800 residents visit the hub, collectively preventing 561kg of waste and cutting 12.8 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

Carrie Cort, Founder and CEO of Sussex Green Living, adds “as a small charity, we’re doing a lot with little. Every donation helps us continue our work, like establishing more community hubs across Sussex and launching new ideas like a Library of Things. We hope our community will join us in this fundraising campaign because together we can make a real impact.”

The charity is encouraging Sussex residents to donate during the campaign week, when all contributions will be doubled.

Sussex Green Living: The charity supports people across Sussex to take practical action on climate change. Its work includes repair, refill and recycling initiatives, as well as advice and community events that help residents reduce waste, save money and lower their environmental impact.

Big Give Earth Raise: Big Give runs match-funding campaigns that double public donations to charities. Earth Raise is its annual campaign focused on environmental causes, supporting organisations working to tackle climate change and protect nature.

Earth Day: celebrated annually on April 22nd since 1970, is a global event dedicated to environmental protection and sustainability. Coordinated by EARTHDAY.ORG.
