February green events in Horsham

February 22, 2022/in Children & nature, Climate change, Events, Food Waste, Single use plastic/by Carrie Cort

HUb LogoDon’t forget this Saturday it is our Sussex Green Hub event at the URC Horsham RH12 2RG (near Wilko off West Street and the Lynd Cross pub and opposite  St John the Evangelist). This collaborative community event is on the last Saturday every month 10 – 4pm, this month we have some extra activities within the hub and just outside. Free food and free advice to help people, planet and pocket!

Horsham Repair Cafe repairs and our bottle refill service.

Carbon Clinic – every month going forward a new volunteer, Christian based at our Sussex Green Living (SGL) display area, is offering a carbon clinic. People are invited to sit and have a friendly non judgemental chat about their lifestyle choices, he will run through a survey with them, then he emails the participant with ideas for changes they can make to reduce their impact on the environment. Please make time to chat to Christian yourself, you will hopefully get a few new ideas. Learn more here.

Community Energy Horsham – Mark will be available in the SGL area to talk to people about how a group of local people are looking for places where community energy can be installed. There is a meeting upstairs at the URC at 2pm to progress this project, which anyone is welcome to attend.

Horsham Community Fridge – not new but just a reminder, HCF will be redistributing food from 10am onwards, please encourage their customers to look around the hub and engage with the stalls, learn about the environmental benefits of the refills and repairs.

Transition Horsham – with a focus on growing and seed exchange. Alison is also actively involved with Community Energy Horsham.

SGL Wombles/recycling volunteers – an opportunity for people to ask questions about council, supermarket and our TerraCycle recycling.

Horsham Eco Churches – Karen will be on hand to talk about eco church activities in Horsham and all things green!

Community cafe – Encourage people to stop for a cuppa and cake at the URC community cafe.

Essential oils in the home chats – this Saturday only in the URC Helen from Camomile Lawn will be available throughout the day, chatting about how you can use essential oils in your home with demos at 10:30am and 3pm

Just on 26th Feb:

  • Opposite the URC in St John’s arches Horsham Fairtrade will have a stall, it is the beginning of Fairtrade Fortnight.
  • In the Bishopric outside the Lynd Cross Pub our Inspiration Eco Station (milk float) will be with our Youth Eco Forum members, they are running a community tree potting session between 10am and 1pm, inviting donations for the Woodland Trust in exchange for potted up tree seeds and saplings. Our Youth Eco Forum lead Max is 18 years old on Saturday so please do go and wish them a happy birthday, give them a donation and take a tree pot. The float will be in the market with volunteers sharing green inspiration until about 4pm.
  • Next to the float the Woodland Trust will have a stand.
